The department\u2019s motto is <strong>\u201ca healthy happy child.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<b>Specialized services:<\/b>\n<ul>\n \t<li>Cardiology, Neurology, Endocrinology, Nephrology, Infectious Diseases, Pulmonology, Oncology, Critical Care, Gastroenterology, Neonatology, General Paediatrics, Clinical paediatric service.<\/li>\n \t<li>Four specialized Paediatrics wards on third floor, 3A Cardiology, Pulmonology and infectious diseases, 3B Neurology, Endocrinology, 3C Gastroenterology, Nephrology &#038; 3D Haematology and Rheumatology.<\/li>\n \t<li>Paediatrics Specialized units on second floor: Paediatric ICU, Renal, and Kangaroo Mother care<\/li>\n \t<li>Paediatrics Specialized unit on first floor: New Born Unit and Neonatal ICU and Oncology ward (ward 1E)<\/li>\n \t<li>On the ground floor, a Paediatrics Emergency Unit (PEU) and Paediatrics Outpatient Consultants Clinics including Outpatient Chemotherapy Clinic, Paediatrics CCC (Comprehensive Care Clinic), and various follow up clinics for all inpatient specialized services and PDU (Paediatric Demonstration Unit) which offer immunization, nutrition, and well-baby clinic care.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<button class=\"accordion\">CANCER TREATMENT CENTRE<\/button>\n<div class=\"panel\">\n\nThe Cancer Treatment Centre provides care for patients with Oncology disorders. KNH Cancer Treatment Center has been offering cancer care for over 50 years. The Nutrition Department is responsible for the provision of Medical Nutrition Therapy services for the purpose of disease management in patients. Medical Nutrition Therapy is a specific application of the Nutrition Care Process in clinical settings that is focused on the management of diseases.<br><br>\n\nThe Nutrition Department is located on 2nd floor of the Old Hospital at Kenyatta National Hospital. <b>For further information, please contact: Nutrition Department, KNH -020 2726300 <\/b><br>\n\nThe Nutrition Department works with patients, healthcare staff and the general public to promote optimum nutrition. These include:\n<ol>\n \t<li>Individuals and groups who need to change their diet and related behavior to alleviate or cure a medical condition.<\/li>\n \t<li>Individuals and groups who can prevent disease and ill health by changing their diet and related behavior.<\/li>\n \t<li>Work with the catering and nursing services to ensure that all patients are offered appropriate foods to meet their nutritional requirements, considering their medical condition, dietary and\/or cultural restrictions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\nNutritionists provide nutrition care, advice and education to patients while they are in and out of hospital after discharge.<br><br>\n\n<b>Inpatient Services<\/b>\n<ol>\n \t<li>Our inpatient services are delivered by a team of Nutrition experts who provide specialized nutrition and dietetic services in all wards and specialized units in the Hospital. The Nutritionists carry out nutrition screening to identify patients who require nutrition care. The services are available from Monday to Friday, and on consultation over the weekend between 8 AM to 5 PM.<\/li>\n \t<li>We use a range of assessment techniques to devise and review nutrition care plans for patients namely anthropometric assessment, biochemical assessment, clinical assessments, dietary assessments and nutrition focused physical findings.<\/li>\n<\/ol><br><br>\n<b>Outpatient Services<\/b><br>\n\nThe Department provides outpatient nutrition services to aid the general public with management of specific dietary needs in different health conditions, including cardiac care, diabetes, kidney disease, maternal infant and young child nutrition, obesity among others. Our nutrition experts provide nutritional care and advice about lifestyle maintenance and good nutrition at:\n<ul>\n \t<li>The Diet Advisory Clinic (DAC)<\/li>\n \t<li>Maternal and Child Health Clinic (MCHC) (No.66)<\/li>\n \t<li>Obstetrics and Gynaecology Clinic (No.18)<\/li>\n \t<li>Paediatric Outpatient Clinic (No.23)<\/li>\n \t<li>Diabetes and Endocrinology Centre<\/li>\n \t<li>Renal Clinic<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nThe services are available from Monday to Friday, between 8 AM to 5 PM.<br><br>\n\n<b>Milestones<\/b>\n<ol>\n \t<li>We have a Workplace Breastfeeding Support Room for KNHstaff<\/li>\n \t<li>We train approximately 75 healthcare workers in Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition annually<\/li>\n \t<li>We train over 40 interns on comprehensive nutrition management of all disease conditions annually<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<b>Ongoing Activities<\/b>\n<ol>\n \t<li>Developing curriculum materials for establishment of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) provider\u2019s program for Nutrition and Dietetics professionals<\/li>\n \t<li>Spearheading the annual World Breastfeeding Week<\/li>\n \t<li>Student\/Intern training on practicum attachment from both local and international institutions of higher learning. We also train over 40 Nutrition Interns annually placed by the Kenya Nutritionists and Dietitians Institute.<\/li>\n \t<li>Facilitating in-service trainings for healthcare providers from both public and private institutions and offers three courses annually on Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition at KNH Lactation Centre in ward 1A. The course is open to KNH staff and other external participants at a fee.<\/li>\n \t<li>Facilitating both in-house trainings and other trainings in collaboration with MOMs\/MOPHS\/partners.<\/li>\n \t<li>Conducting research aimed at improving health services at KNH. Nutritionists also participate in scientific fora to share information and gain knowledge.<\/li>\n \t<li>Participating in national health planning and policy formulation in conjunction with MOH and other stakeholders.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<b>Future plans <\/b>\n<ol>\n \t<li>Plans are underway to make KNH Nutrition Department a CPD provider.<\/li>\n \t<li>To be a major player in capacity building by running short nutrition specialization courses<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<button class=\"accordion\">COMPREHENSIVE CARE CENTRE<\/button>\n<div class=\"panel\">\n\nKenyatta National Hospital Comprehensive Care Center was established in December 2002 to offer holistic care and support to patients infected and affected by HIV\/AIDS.<br><br>\n\nThe Comprehensive Care Centre (CCC) is situated at the Rahimtulla Wing of the hospital, and is a center of excellence and best practices for HIV treatment and care.<br><br>\n\nThe clinic operates Monday to Friday and Saturdays for Psychosocial support groups from 7 AM to 5 PM.<br><br>\n\nThe CCC acts as the referral center for those patients who have developed complications from antiretroviral treatment from the whole country or those patients who have failed on the first line of treatment and require to be started on second line therapy.<br><br>\n\n<b>Services offered:<\/b>\n<ul>\n \t<li>Clinical care which antiretroviral drug initiation, treatment of opportunistic infections and monitoring of patients<\/li>\n \t<li>Specialized advance HIV Care clinics including senior citizen, MDT<\/li>\n \t<li>Laboratory services; both baseline and monitoring tests. The unit is mandated to provide specialist care to skin-related issues that meet the best professional standards.
