style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Background<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul>\n \t<li>Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) is the largest public referral hospital with comprehensive cancer treatment facilities.<\/li>\n \t<li>The Hospital receives cancer patients who travel from all corners of the country and the region to access treatment.<\/li>\n \t<li>In 2015, a survey was conducted in partnership with American Cancer Society (ACS) on more than 400 cancer patients receiving treatment at KNH, which showed 29% of patients had missed or delayed treatment due to high transport and accommodation costs.<\/li>\n \t<li>Many patients receiving treatment as outpatients are not able to meet these costs and end up sleeping on the Hospital benches and corridors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/knh.or.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-02-15-at-6.28.52-PM.jpeg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Project Objective<\/strong><\/p>\nTo provide free accommodation for patients undergoing cancer treatment and their care givers\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Project Scope and Cost<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul>\n \t<li>The project entails construction of a four storey building at a cost of Kshs. 230 million<\/li>\n \t<li>Equipment and Operation cost for the first 2 years is Ksh. 64 Million<\/li>\n \t<li>The structure will have a capacity of 156 beds and it will consist of\n<ul>\n \t<li>a day respite area<\/li>\n \t<li>resource center<\/li>\n \t<li>prayer rooms<\/li>\n \t<li>other support facilities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n \t<li>An additional Kshs. 200 million endowment fund will be set up to support the operations of the facility<\/li>\n \t<li>Total Project cost is Ksh 494 Million<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Project Designs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul>\n \t<li>The project designs have been developed by Dexdign Architects on pro bono basis in consultation with the Kenyatta National Hospital, donors and the Hope Hostel Fundraising committee.<\/li>\n \t<li>The designs have been presented to Nairobi City County for approval, with the county waiving the approval fee. The Burns Centre will contain 82 general ward beds, 14 ICU beds and 6 HDU beds while the Pediatric Centre will contain 82 general ward beds, 24 ICU and 6 High Dependency beds. The purpose of the project is to develop a facility that will be a centre of excellence in paediatric emergency and burns management and in addition facilitate training of specialists. The project has been financed by the Ministry of Health at an estimated cost of Kshs. 250 Million.
