The training is designed to equip participants with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and competencies required to deliver high-quality HIV testing services in both clinical and community settings. Using a competency-based approach, the course emphasizes practical mastery of essential skills.

Key objectives include:

· Gaining a comprehensive understanding of HIV/AIDS and related health issues, including sexual and reproductive health.

· Developing effective counseling and communication skills for pre- and post-test sessions.

· Learning and applying HIV testing procedures in line with national guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

· Ensuring accurate documentation and reporting of HIV testing services.

· Strengthening skills in linking clients to appropriate prevention, care, and treatment services

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum academic qualifications include:

· Diploma in social or Health sciences or a related field.

Note:

· Prior work experience in HIV/AIDS counseling or healthcare is required.

· A strong interest in public health and counseling is essential.

· KNH provides five days of supervised clinical practice and awards a NASCOP certificate upon successful completion.

· HIV Epidemiology & Transmission: Overview of how HIV spreads, key risk factors, and global and local trends.

· Target Populations and HTS Approaches: Identifying priority populations and applying appropriate settings, strategies, and delivery models.

· Communication and Counseling for HTS: Building effective counseling and communication skills tailored to HIV testing services.

· HTS Package and Protocols: Understanding the full scope of HIV testing services and standard protocols.

· HIV Prevention Strategies: Including PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis), PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis), and harm reduction techniques.

· Testing Requirements, Algorithms, and Procedures: Performing HIV tests using national algorithms and rapid test kits.

· Result Interpretation: Accurately reading, explaining, and communicating HIV test results to clients.

· Quality Assurance Applying best practices to ensure reliable testing and ethical standards.

· Psychosocial, Contextual, and Emerging Issues in HIV: Addressing social, cultural, and evolving challenges affecting HIV prevention and care.

· Introduction to HIV Treatment and Comprehensive Care: Overview of ART, adherence, and holistic patient management.

· Promotional Activities for HIV Services: Strategies to raise awareness and increase uptake of HIV testing and prevention services.

· Coordination, Monitoring, and Evaluation: Strengthening systems for effective service delivery, data use, and continuous improvement
