KPCC History

Kenyatta National Hospital was originally called the Native Civil Hospital and was built in in 1901.

KNH Prime Care Centre (KPCC) formally known as Private Wing started in 1953 in Rahimtulla Wing as an extension of the main hospital. The Ismail Rahimtulla Wing was built to accommodate patients from the Asian Community.

The Private Wing services were moved to the Tower Block in 1981 with a capacity of 22 beds.

KPCC was registered under the Registration of Business Names Act (Cap. 499, Section 14) on 15th August 2011.

On 20th August 2021, the KPCC Doctor’s Plaza Pharmacy was opened.

The KPCC Lactation lounge was opened on 6th September 2021.

The KNH Zarina Merali Daycare Centre was opened by H.E. Hon Uhuru Kenyatta C.G.H. on 11th May 2022.

On 24th October 2022, KPCC introduced the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) E-Hospital system at the Corporate Outpatient Clinic (COC). The ERP-a Health Management Information System (HMIS) has automated patient registration, appointments, outpatient clinic management, Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Services billing, Pharmacy, Accident and Emergency Management, Ward Management, General enquiries, and User Management.

KPCC currently has a capacity of 224 beds, and an outpatient facility with specialist clinics, vaccination, diagnostic laboratories, ultrasound services and a Daycare centre among others

Who We Are

Kenyatta National Hospital is a State Corporation established under the Legal Notice No. 109 of 6th April 1987, with its registered office at Kenyatta National Hospital, Hospital Road, Nairobi.

The level 6 facility is the largest referral and teaching hospital in Kenya offering specialized services.

The KNH Prime Care Centre (formally known as Private Wing) or KPCC is housed in KNH. It was established in 1953 and caters to patients seeking private health care services at competitive rates in line with the Government policy on cost sharing.

KPCC provides private quality health care services that are professional, affordable, reliable, efficient, effective and value for money. The facility is a true definition of serenity in health care and comprises of modern state-of-the-art equipment.

KPCC is mandated to:
