KNH nurse delivers baby onboard SGR Train to Mombasa

A Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) nurse was part of a team that helped a woman deliver her baby onboard a moving train from Nairobi to Mombasa. Nurse Fauziya Lugogo, a nursing officer at KNH Prime Care Center (KPCC) Ward 9D Maternity Ward was part of this heartwarming story on the Madaraka Express Train on 21st June, 2023.

Ms. Fauzia who was off-duty and heading to the coastal town of Mombasa to attend a friend’s traditional wedding ceremony, swiftly moved in and assisted the mother in having a safe delivery in the moving train.

Upon arrival at the Mariakani SGR Station, the new mother and her baby were quickly transferred to the nearest Sub-County hospital for more specialized care by a waiting ambulance.

The heroics of the 29-year-old maternity nurse, showcases the remarkable medical expertise of our nurses at KNH, but also exemplify the dedication that our healthcare professionals have for their patients, even in unconventional settings.

Their unwavering dedication extends far beyond the Hospital walls, reaching communities and individuals in need wherever they may be.

KNH Prime Care Centre (KPCC) and KNH are glad to have been part of this positive story.
